Dr Matt Edwards joined the Highgate Hill team at the beginning of 2020.
Matt graduated from Imperial College London in 1998 and was drawn into the world of Emergency Medicine. Years or training across all the subspecialties were needed to be an ER doc – This specialty under his belt -he had an epiphany. As much as loved the variety of ER he wanted more continuity and connection with his patients and was drawn towards General Practice. Another round of specialty training, qualifying in both the UK and Australia in General Practice, and he is now 15+ years into his career as GP. He loves the intense variety and the interaction with people of all ages and backgrounds. No problem is too big or too small.
Matt is well settled in Australia along with his wife, who is a midwife at the Mater. He is Girl Dad to two teenage daughters, the eldest of which is following her parents into healthcare. His youngest wants to be a pilot (this week).
Matt relaxes with sailing, camping, pickleball, yoga and gaming.
Dr Edwards’ values have been reflected in his student stint in a refugee camp and working as a Medic on charity trips. He also cares deeply for the environment.
Matt is skilled and comfortable in all areas of medicine, from antenatal care to palliative care.
He holds the University of Qld Advanced Certificate of Skin Surgery. He regularly performs skin checks, skin cancer excisions and other minor surgical procedures such as wedge resection of ingrowing toenails.
Other interests include musculoskeletal and sports medicine, cardiology and diabetes, men’s health, and complex medicine / co-morbidities.
He is skilled in ear cleaning and appreciates the sophisticated ear microscopes available at Highgate Hill Doctors.
